Comprising Cumberland, Gloucester, Salem, and Western Atlantic Counties, New Jersey’s Heartland is bustling and prosperous Main Streets. Lush farm land stretching as far as the eye can see. County fairs and rodeos. American flag-lined thoroughfares. Long walks along pristine beaches. Explorations through magical vineyards.
New Jersey’s Heartland is one of a kind, mom and pop rather than cookie cutter or big box. Here, education and innovation are valued, “craft” and “handmade” are important, and quality always trumps quantity. Best of all, in New Jersey’s Heartland, fun and adventure are always around the corner.
Our New Jersey’s Heartland website was created by the Pascale Sykes Foundation as part of its South Jersey Economic Initiative. It is designed to promote all of the key attractions, benefits, resources and hidden treasures that can be found within this special four-county region.
We invite you to explore New Jersey’s Heartland. When you do we’re sure you’ll agree that New Jersey’s Heartland is a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family!
The Pascale Sykes Foundation supports a select number of innovative, flexible, holistic, long-range programs that promote the integrity, independence and well-being of the intergenerational family unit.
The South Jersey Economic Initiative is being undertaken specifically to help working families in New Jersey’s Heartland. It is connected with the Foundation’s ongoing social service and transportation initiatives through referrals and information sharing. The Foundation believes that this is a unique approach because it is an outgrowth and directly tied to its Strengthening Families Initiative.
The Foundation recognizes that healthy, self-sufficient families need a steady source of income and vibrant communities in which to live and work. So in addition to identifying projects to provide education and workforce development training, the Foundation is working to enhance the visibility of the four target counties as “New Jersey’s Heartland” – a destination region that is able to attract businesses, residents and visitors to the area.

In October 2014, New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC) was selected as the community investment partner to articulate the scope and parameters of the financial investment component of the South Jersey Economic Initiative, including advising on loan preparation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as administering the requirements for the types and amounts of loans and, additionally, determining the need for grants to prepare for loans. NJCC will create a sustainable effort that leverages the considerable resources of the Foundation by attracting additional funding sources.
