‘Tis the Season for Festivals in New Jersey’s Heartland
When you hear the phrase ‘Tis the Season, your mind immediately jumps to December and the joys of the Christmas Holiday. Except if you live in New Jersey’s Heartland’s Salem County.
When July rolls around, and the mercury in the thermometer climbs, that’s when Santa dons his beach shirt and bathing suit and heads to Parvin State Park for Christmas in July. This great fun-filled family event will be held this year on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 701 Almond Rd, in Pittsgrove Township, NJ, 08318 (rain date Sunday, July 22, 2018).
Christmas in July features something for kids of all ages, with facilities to swim and picnic (for a fee) and other great activities, including waterslides on the beach, a bounce house, train rides (fee charged), rock painting, sand castle competition and face painting. There will also be a full Health Fair, car show with prizes, historical displays and music all afternoon.
Parvin State Park is still looking for crafters, antique and classic cars, food vendors and community groups to set up displays for the event. If you are interested, email Parvinvolunteers@gmail.com for forms and additional information.
Speaking of festivals, Japanese folk dancing, taiko drumming and authentic cuisine will all be featured at the 73rd Annual Bon Festival on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Seabrook Buddhist Temple, 9 County Road 711/9 Northville Road, in Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
This magical festival features children’s events, entertainment, exhibits, festivals, food, music, presentations and workshops, including “Introduction to Buddhism” sessions in the hondo and the meditation garden.
