ETHEL Will Raise the Curtain on the 11th Season of Extraordinary Music At Bunker Hill
Named the “avatar of ‘post-classical’ music by The New Yorker, ETHEL has earned its place as a lead voice in the pantheon of the concert music world. The string quartet, which is known for its enlivened playing and consistently groundbreaking redefinition of concert music, will be live in New Jersey’s Heartland to open the 11th season of Music at Bunker Hill on Sunday, September 16, 2018, 3 p.m., at Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, 330 Greentree Road, Sewell, NJ, 08080.
Described as “an adventurous quartet with a rock band’s zest” by The New York Times, and deemed “a genre unto itself” by the Village Voice, ETHEL continues to set the standard for contemporary concert music. Their varied program, Grace, centers on their own adaptation of Ennio Morricone’s moving score to the movie, The Mission. Continuing with their theme of cross-cultural complexities, ETHEL presents Pakistani, Appalachian, Korean, Zuni, and Hawaiian songs and chants. Their program concludes with the peace and clarity of 12th century German abbess Hildegard von Bingen.
This program is made possible in part by funding from the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission at Rowan College at Gloucester County, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State and the National Endowment for the Arts. Individual tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for students. Seating is unreserved and the doors open at 2:30 p.m. There is ample regular and handicapped parking. A free post-concert reception with the artists rounds out this magical, music experience.
Season 11 of Music at Bunker Hill promises six excellent concerts, including Trios of Debussy, Musgrave, Takemitsu, Piano Quartet Masterworks (Beethoven and Fauré), Quintessential Quintets (Beethoven and Dvořák), The Human Need for Melody (Bach, Joplin, and Chopin), and Blues and Brahms (W.
