The Board Members of Maurice River Historical Society / Eastpoint Lighthouse
The board members of Maurice River Historical Society / Eastpoint Lighthouse deserve to be honored as New Jersey’s Heartland Hero. They have worked many hours as a team to preserve the lighthouse. Eastpoint Lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse in New Jersey and a gem of the Bayshore area here in Cumberland County.
1) Restoration of the lighthouse – inside and out.
2) Obtained historical furniture pieces, photos and history from many individuals, several who can trace their lineage back to past lighthouse keepers.
3) The lighthouse is now open to the public and is, in effect, a museum set to look as if the lighthouse keeper and family are living there – it has, once again, become a very popular destination for visitors from far and wide.
4) Currently striving to make the public and government officials aware of the danger of the lighthouse “falling into the Delaware Bay and being lost forever” due to ongoing erosion.
Thank you for bringing restoring and maintaining this hidden gem in the Heartland of New Jersey.
