David Kaplan
Yamaha artist David Kaplan returns to Music at Bunker Hill on Sunday, September 8th at 3:00 PM with an all-Schumann and Schumann-inspired solo piano recital. Also known for his collaborative playing, the Music at Bunker Hill audience will remember Mr. Kaplan’s dynamic performance of the Beethoven and Fauré piano quartets last season. For this solo appearance Mr. Kaplan will play Schumann’s lyric Carnaval as well as the recently commissioned New Dances of the League of David. These short pieces by contemporary composers juxtapose the Romantic style of Schumann with 21st century works. For Schumann’s Märchenbilder or Fairy Tale Pictures, Mr. Kaplan will collaborate with violist William Frampton.
David Kaplan has been called “excellent and adventurous” by the New York Times and has been praised for “grace and fire” by the Boston Globe. He has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Britten Sinfonia at London’s Barbican Centre, and recently made his concerto debut in Berlin’s Philharmonie. A creative recitalist, Mr. Kaplan has appeared at the Ravinia Festival, Washington’s National Gallery, Strathmore in Baltimore, and Bargemusic. As an active chamber musician, he has collaborated with the Attacca, Ariel, Enso, Hausman, and Tesla String Quartets. He has appeared at the Bard, Seattle Chamber Music, Mostly Mozart, and Chamber Music Northwest festivals. Mr. Kaplan records for Naxos and Nonesuch.
