Annual Holiday Studio Sale And Big Glass Blast!
Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center hosts its annual Holiday Studio Sale beginning Friday, November 29 through Sunday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Event Center. This highly anticipated sale features discounts of 30% to 70% off original prices on a wide selection of handcrafted ceramic and glass items. Terry Plasket and the WheatonArts’ Ceramic Studio Artists will showcase functional pottery, such as mugs, teapots, vases and more in a variety of glazes, sizes, and styles! The glass section includes new WheatonArts prototypes, seconds and overstocks, along with individual works made by the WheatonArts Glass Studio Artists. Studio glass by Vermont-based artists Melanie and David Leppla will be on sale as well. WheatonArts Members are invited to a special Members-Only Preview at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 29.
On November 29 WheatonArts will also be celebrating the start of the holiday season with the 11th annual Big Glass Blast event! Since 2008, the Big Glass Blast Team has delighted audiences of all generations with larger than life glass creations such as the world’s largest Christmas Ornament, Fruitcake, and last year’s amazing Gingerbread Man. The theme this year will be “The World’s Largest Glass Cornucopia,” sharing the abundance of Cumberland County’s agricultural traditions with the talents of WheatonArts glass artists.
But where there is great bounty there is also great need. This year, the Big Glass Blast event takes on an added element of social responsibility to raise awareness and support for the M25 Initiative. The M25 Initiative is a 501c3 non-profit created for the sole purpose of engaging, equipping, empowering, and mobilizing individuals and organizations to employ innovative and cooperative solutions to alleviate suffering, feed the hungry, end poverty, reduce crime, revitalize a spirited community and transform lives. Representatives from the M25 Initiative will have a table in the Glass Studio from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Big Glass Blast.
“We are grateful for our community partnerships that allow M25 the opportunity to help raise awareness and funds to combat homelessness in Cumberland County,” said Dr. Robin Weinstein, President and Founder of the M25 Initiative. “The Glass Blast is a great opportunity to open the mind to the arts while opening our hearts to the needs in our community.”
WheatonArts is providing free admission to visitors through its ”Family Days! Presented by PNC Arts Alive!” program for the Big Glass Blast and the first weekend of the Holiday Studio Sale, Friday, November 29 through Sunday, December 1, and again for the end of the sale on December 7 and 8.
