Heartland Hero Nick Pittman
Best known as “Nor’Easter Nick” to the many fans who make his high-energy broadcasts part of their daily routine, Nick Pittman is South Jersey’s premier weatherman. With an affinity for meteorology that began at a young age, Nick started broadcasting professionally for NBC-40 when he was just 17 years old. Today, Nick is the chief meteorologist for WJLP-TV, leading the New Jersey News Network weather team. He also independently operates NorCast Weather, an app that features forecasts, community events, and promotion of local businesses.
While Nick’s vibrant demeanor has built himself into a one-man brand, he uses his media personality to support causes in his native South Jersey. When NJ Transit closed the train line operating between the Atlantic City Rail Terminal and Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station, Nick was an outspoken advocate for restoring the line—which reopened in May 2019. He also rallied to revive the beloved Atlantic City Christmas Parade, and started a foundation to help feed food insecure families during the holidays.
With a commitment to sharing his passion for meteorology with students, Nick averages 50 school visits a year. He also hosts a friendly competition called “Kidcaster” to inspire kids to pursue his field. To participate, kids submit a 30-second clip of themselves reporting on the weather. The enthusiasm Nick has for his community is evident not only in his daily broadcasts but in the constant support he provides his viewers. It is the spirit and generosity of people like Nick that make New Jersey’s Heartland special and we are delighted to name him July’s Heartland Hero!
