Rain or shine, head to Axe and Arrow for a good time!
Located in Glassboro, the Axe and Arrow Brewery is humming along with business after a successful SummerFest. Only in business for a year and a half, Axe and Arrow has already topped the charts making the “Top 10 Winners” list of “Best New Brewery” in USA Today.
Josh Lockman of Mullica Hill and Greg Fletcher of Pedricktown were both craft brewing for fun. One evening at a barbecue, the two friends discussed craft breweries and cool locations to build one. The idea to start a craft brewery came to fruition. The trio of founders formed when Josh’s wife, Krystle Lockman, an accountant, joined in to make sure this would be more than merely a passion, but also a successful business venture. The three formed Axe and Arrow Brewery located at 105 High St W in Glassboro, New Jersey.
On the opening day of April 7, 2019, there were only five beers on the menu. With a seven-barrel brewing system and the work ethic along the way, the Axe and Arrow Brewery now boasts 20 taps, including one newly added gluten-free seltzer! “With a wide variety of beers including traditional lagers, easy drinking pale ales, sours which are tart and tend to be fruited, and one gluten-free option, the seltzer, the Axe and Arrow strives to make simple beers in a variety of styles so everyone can find their favorite,” said Krystle Lockman.
New Jersey Community Capital lent a helping hand towards this entrepreneurial endeavor. It was with their help that Axe and Arrow was able to receive funding for the equipment and part of the working capital before opening this microbrewery.
Most recently, thanks to neighbors in the Heartland cooperating and working together, the Axe and Arrow Brewery was able to expand their patio from its original 800 square foot space to include an additional patio space of 900 square feet.
There is a plethora of tables available outdoors. Each table can seat a party of up to eight people. A combined number of 112 people can drink and dine safely outside in the fresh air throughout the 1,700 square foot patio space. Giant tents cover the entire patio area, so no worries whether it’s rain or shine, head to Axe and Arrow for a good time!
When you sit down at a table, a QR code is available there for you to scan and view
the menu digitally from your phone. Axe and Arrow Brewery is tech-savvy, regularly sanitized, and up to date by offering a completely digital menu, unless a regular menu is requested. To see the menu online, visit https://axeandarrowbrewing.com/ontap.html
Giving back to the community and paying it forward is vital to Axe and Arrow. The microbrewery recently participated in the All Together Beer and Black is Beautiful collaborative efforts. All Together Beer is a worldwide beer collaboration that Axe and Arrow Brewery participated in to raise funds for the hospitality industry during COVID-19. 100 percent of the proceeds from the All Together Beer helped people in the craft beer industry in New Jersey. The Black is Beautiful, a “12% imperial stout that is malty, roasty, and chocolately,” and still available on the menu, donates 100% of its proceeds to the Know Your Rights Campaign and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
