VINELAND, NJ—Main Street Vineland has announced that Lidl, recognized by Food & Wine Magazine as a top 10 supermarket in America, will be the major sponsor of the Third Annual Running The Ave 5K, to take place on Sunday, June 27, rain or shine, starting at 9 a.m. in downtown Vineland.

Cumberland County’s premier road race, organized in cooperation with Second Capital Running, will go through 3.1 miles of Vineland’s wide streets and green parks. The race starts on The Ave. Special awards will go to the fastest runner from Vineland and a True Grit Award for the last-place finisher. Team challenges will take place for the fastest family and fastest business. Social distancing measures will be in place.

Lidl opened its Vineland store, its first in New Jersey, in November 2017 and today operates 10 stores in the state, with plans to open 10 additional stores by the end of this year. The National Retail Federation recognized Lidl last year as the fastest growing retailer in the United States.

“Lidl is loved by customers worldwide and their sponsorship of events like this—and others that they have sponsored—really shows support within the localities in which they do businesses,” Swanson said. “They are true community partners, and we are proud to continue to have them aboard to help make events on The Ave such as this the best they can be.”

The Running The Ave 5K event has put downtown Vineland on the map in the running community,” according to Main Street Vineland Associate Director Robert Scarpa, and this year’s race should be no exception.

“Over the past two years we’ve had runners from throughout the Delaware Valley participate, with approximately 140 registering each year,” he said. “This is phenomenal and has helped earn the event a place in The Ave’s annual lineup of events. Sign up and participate or just come out and cheer on the runners.”
