Financial Assistance Programs Available:

Universal Service Fund (USF)
The Universal Service Fund program helps low-income households pay for electric and natural gas service. Eligible New Jersey Customers pay no more than 6% of their income for their natural gas and electric service capped at $150 per month. First time USF Recipients may be eligible to be enrolled on to the USF FRESH START Forgiveness program. This program allows for forgiveness of arrears greater than $60 if next 12 bills are paid on time.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps elderly, disabled and low-income New Jersey
residents pay their utility heating bills. Payments vary depending on income, household size, fuel type and heating region.

Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE)
The PAGE energy assistance program helps low- to- moderate income customers. Applicants must have a past due
balance of over $100 or be disconnected. Grant amounts vary based on income and past due balance. Recipients may also have previously received funding from other assistance programs.

Lifeline Assistance Program
Lifeline is a utility assistance program that offers a $225 grant to seniors or adult persons receiving Social Security
Disability benefits. The benefit is applied equally to natural gas and electric utilities.

NJ Comfort Partners
NJ Comfort Partners is a free energy saving and energy education program for qualified low-income customers. The
program helps you save energy and money and helps make your home more energy-efficient.

NJ SHARES assists income-eligible households in paying their energy, telephone and water bills. NJ SHARES provides relief to people who are not eligible for other types of assistance.

• Can I change or lower my billing amount?
  – Please contact customer service at 1.888.766.9900.

• When is the Winter Termination Program?
  – The program is from November 15th to March 15th. You are required to make monthly good-faith payments.

• How do I change or get the SJG bill in my name?
  – Please contact customer service at 1.888.766.9900.

• I received a notice about my gas being disconnected, when will this happen?
  – Your gas can be disconnected any time after the disconnection notice date. For assistance, please contact the collections department at 1.800.377.8222.

• Why am I not eligible for a new payment arrangement?
  – Your account may not be eligible for a new payment arrangement due to your past payment history. Please contact customer service for further information at 1.888.766.9900.
