From Arts & Crafts to Food & Wine and Fun for the Kids, there’s a world of great events, festivals, fairs and fitness events in New Jersey’s Heartland. Here is a listing of all of the upcoming events.

Auditions for Raisin in the Sun at The Road Company Theatre will take place on January 9th and 10th. Please complete and submit the Google audition form prior to your attendance at the audition.
Please be honest about your conflicts and what parts you will accept and if not cast in those parts if you will accept another role. We reserve the right to cut any cast member that has not been honest with us regarding their conflicts.

AUDITION INFORMATION:
January 9th and 10th at 7pm
Callbacks January 12th at 7pm.
If you receive a callback you will be contacted by telephone or email. If you do not receive a call back it does not mean that you were not cast, however you will not need to be present at the callback
All those auditioning must prepare a 2-minute Dramatic Monologue in the style of the show.
If you are cast you will get a call or email by Saturday, January 15th, 2022. If you do not get a call that means you were not cast. There are only a limited number of spots in this show. Thank you for auditioning for us and we hope you come out again for a future production at The Grand Theatre.
Rehearsals will be on Sundays, 6pm, Tuesday, 7pm and Thursday, 7pm. There may be daily rehearsals from March 6, 2022.

COVID PRECAUTIONS
– If you have not been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, we request that you wear a mask throughout the audition process, including callbacks. You will have the option to remove your mask briefly when you’re alone on stage for your singing audition, but must put the mask back on before leaving the stage.
– whenever possible, please keep a distance of 6 feet or more between yourself and others.
– Hand sanitizer is located in various places throughout the theater.
– Please enter through the front cafe doors and check in with us at the counter.
– Auditions are first come first served if you wish to submit a video submission please email us first at info@roadcompany.com.
– In order to better promote social distancing, please do not bring any additional friends or family into the theater during the audition process. Only people auditioning will be allowed into the building.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Walter Lee Younger: (Male, 30-40) – the protagonist, energetic dreamer, full of hope and despair, wants to raise his family out of poverty, frustrated by his lack of know-how Wants to open his own business.
Lena Younger: (Female, 55-65)- Family matriarch, wise, strong, caring, fiercely loyal to her beliefs and dreams, uneducated but has worked hard to provide and care for her family; does not always understand some of the “new” ways of doing things.
Ruth Younger: (Female, 30-35) – Walter’s wife, loving mother and wife, but very weary from the burden that poverty adds to their daily life. She is resigned to their situation. She worries that Walter’s dreams are unrealistic.
Beneatha Younger: (Female, 18-22) – Walter Lee’s younger sister. She prides herself on being an intellectual, as she is the most educated member of the family. She wants to be a doctor and constantly questions Mama’s traditional values. Exploring her personal identity as an African-American woman while dating both George, a wealthy African American man, and Asagai, a Nigerian student.
Travis Younger: (Male, 8-14) – son of Walter Lee and Ruth. Sleeps on the couch since there is no bedroom for him. Curious and playful but often sad because of all the family’s problems; hopeful; looks up to his father; loves his mother but often clashes with her.
Joseph Asagai: (Male, 18-22) – Nigerian college student, friend and suitor of Beneatha. The most travelled character and therefore brings a vastly different perspective for Beneatha to consider. Actor must be able to speak with an African accent.
George Murchison: (Male, 19-21) – wealthy college student, suitor of Beneatha with conservative traditional values. Takes pride in his social standing, not interested in her intellect or radical views.
Bobo: (Male, 28-40) – Walter Lee’s friend from the neighborhood and would-be business partner. A wheeler dealer but gullible.
Karl Lindner: (Male, 45-60) – The only white character in the play. Represents a neighborhood association concerned about blacks moving into “their” neighborhood. Probably a nice enough man in his own environment; honestly believes he is serving a greater good.
