ANTIQUE TOY PRESENTATION AND OLDE STONE HOUSE VILLAGE TOUR
JUNE 11, 2022 1:00 PM
When we think of toys, we often think of things we might own now or in the past, rather than historical artifacts. However, toys can teach us quite a lot about history. On Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm, the Gloucester County Historical Society will present a program on Antique Toys followed by a tour of the village’s five historic buildings. The Olde Stone House Village is located at 208 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080.
The presentation will focus on toys from the 19th and 20th centuries, explaining how these objects often reflect the current interest of the time they were made. This can give us insight into the innovations that helped create them.
The main focus of the village is the @1765 George, Jr. and Sarah Morgan House, which is the only building original to the site. Four additional buildings were moved to the site in the 20th century to ensure their survival: the Quay Farmhouse, Turnersville Post Office, Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, and the Blackwood Railroad Station.
The presentation and tour are free, but advance registration by June 9 is requested for planning purposes. Visit www.friendsoftheoldestonehouse.org to register. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Olde Stone House Village and the Washington Township Historic Preservation Commission.
This program is made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
