John Fuqua Receives May 2022 New Jersey’s Heartland Hero Award
With a focus on engaging Cumberland County’s youth population and promoting opportunities for its most disadvantaged individuals, John Fuqua recently founded the nonprofit organization, Life Worth Living. John is our May 2022 Heartland Hero.
Providing the youth of Cumberland County with a solid foundation and a sense of hope is the mission of Life Worth Living, for which John currently serves as the Chief Engagement Officer. Outreach and youth education are also main components of John’s work, including making presentations and leading group and individual mentoring sessions. Along with his small, dedicated team, John also provides the youth of Cumberland County’s most challenged areas with recreational events and sports camps. During the COVID-19 pandemic, John used his own funds to sponsor such opportunities for young people, helping to ensure that youth in the county could stay engaged during the challenging period.
John is currently in the process of building “street teams” to disseminate information and increase awareness about the useful resources and services that are available to the communities he’s involved in. Thanks to his tireless efforts with Life Worth Living, John has reached countless at-risk youth in Cumberland County, helping them understand that their lives and those of their peers are worth living.
For all the support and encouragement he provides to Cumberland County’s youth, and the positivity he promotes, New Jersey’s Heartland is proud to honor John Fuqua, of Bridgeton, NJ, as the May 2022 Heartland Hero.
While New Jersey’s Heartland is filled with hidden gems, its biggest treasures are the people who make the region a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family. All Heartland Heroes receive a Heartland Heroes Certificate and Gift Basket in recognition of their award.
