SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE Launches Project to Provide Pavement Condition Assessment
SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE announced it will work with Michael Baker International to complete pavement condition assessment for the SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE roadway network. This task is part of a larger regional project led by the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) to collect data on approximately 2,100 miles of county and municipal roads located within the six-member agencies (Atlantic City, Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, City of Vineland, and Salem County). As part of this project, Michael Baker will lead a team providing data collection and processing for all streets within the SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE jurisdiction. The collected data will be used to produce a Pavement Condition Index and to inform street maintenance, preservation, and rehabilitation programming decisions by SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE. The project could also expand to include roadway infrastructure asset inventories and an implementation of a multi-year pavement management system.
“At Michael Baker, our experts leverage proven technologies to provide pavement condition data collection and pavement management services to help our clients manage their valuable roadway infrastructure,” said Nathan Kebede, National Pavement Services Lead at Michael Baker International. “SJTPO partner agencies, including SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE, are responsible for maintaining a large street network in the state, and we look forward to partnering with the SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE to ensure its pavement conditions fulfill the needs of a highly mobile population.”
The team will utilize technology that allows for the gathering and delivery of highly accurate data in a short period of time without any interruption to SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE operations or traffic flow. The assessment will be performed using the latest equipment on the market, including a vehicle equipped with a fully integrated automated pavement imaging system, spherical 360-degree cameras and survey software. Michael Baker’s data processing will be performed in an easily scalable cloud environment, allowing the firm and SALEM COUNTY ENGINEER’S OFFICE to manage and rapidly process the large quantity of data generated from the pavement survey.
