Working Together For Working Families is Hosted in New Jersey’s Heartland
As part of the Pascale Sykes Foundation’s South Jersey Strengthening Families Initiative, New Jersey’s Heartland was on display at the Working Together For Working Families conference on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
The one-day conference, which was held at Cumberland County College’s Luciano Conference Center, helped to expand the national discussion on how to best serve low-income, working class families. It showcased the Pascale Sykes Foundation’s Whole Family Approach, South Jersey Strengthening Families Initiative Grantees, Transportation Plus Grantees, and two-pronged South Jersey Economic Initiative, which includes New Jersey’s Heartland and New Jersey Community Capital’s THRIVE South Jersey small business and entrepreneurial lending program.
New York Times Op-Ed columnist and author David Brooks served as the conference’s keynote speaker. The conference included a panel discussion featuring family activist and Family Story Co-Director Mia Birdsong, John T. Gorman Foundation President and CEO Anthony Cipollone, Forum for Youth Investment Advocacy Vice President and SparkAction Co-Founder Thaddeus Ferber, Presidio Institute Managing Director David Smith, The Aspen Institute Ascend Managing Director Marjorie Sims and Administration for Children and Families Region II Administrator Joyce Thomas.
Working Together For Working Families brought 325 experts in the field of family social services from around the nation to New Jersey’s Heartland. It presented a great opportunity for the Pascale Sykes Foundation and its grantees to show how the Whole Family Approach is building stronger families throughout Cumberland, Gloucester, Salem and Western Atlantic Counties, the region that comprises the Heartland of New Jersey.
