Salem Health and Wellness Foundation
Usually Heartland Heroes is bestowed on individuals making a difference in New Jersey’s Heartland. This month’s honorees are four special mayors who represent their respective counties on the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation. They are Mayor Sean Elwell from Elsinboro Township, Mayor Joe Stemberger from Elmer Boro, Mayor Robert McDade from Pennsville Township and Mayor Marjorie Sperry from Quinton Township. Their contributions to healthy eating and active living initiatives on the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation have awarded their municipalities $80,000 in grants to pursue healthy living improvements in their communities. The grant money, which these mayors worked tirelessly and selflessly to secure, will allow their communities to create or extend current walking paths, improve healthy options at concession stands, conduct healthy living audits, pursue healthy menu options with local eateries and make environmental improvements. These mayors are making change and creating an impact in their counties for years to come. We salute you and thank you.
