WheatonArts Hosts “A Garden of Quilts” Biennial Show March 10-11, 2018
Quilting. Is it an art or is it a craft? Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center’s biennial “A Garden of Quilts” Quilt Show will challenge the long-held notion of quilting as a craft, showcasing the artistry and imagination that go into this ages-old tradition.
Presented in conjunction with The Garden Patch Quilt Guild of Southern New Jersey, The Quilt Show will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, March, 11, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5.00 per person and free for WheatonArts members. Food and refreshments by Top Shelf Mobile Cuisine will be available for purchase in the Event Center by from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is free.
Visitors to the Quilt Show will enjoy a variety of unique quilt-related demonstrations, displays and exhibits. A beautifully-designed, queen-sized, hand appliquéd quilt, pieced together by the Guild members, will be raffled off as part of the show. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each and will be on sale in the Event Center. The lucky winner will be drawn on Sunday and announced during the show.
While serving to showcase quality work, The Quilt Show provides quilters with an evaluation of their work. Quilts, quilted items as well as garments will be judged in these categories: visual impact, design, color, workmanship, quilting and finishing of the piece. Registered quilts will be judged by Phyllis Manley of Plymouth Meeting, PA, who has been an avid quilter for 45 years. Phyllis’ quilts have won a host of ribbons on the local, regional and national stage. She has been certified as a National Association of Certified Quilt Judges for more than 10 years, while qualifying to judge Masterpiece Quilts.
