Noted hip-hop lyrist Ahmad Graves-El—known as “The Lung”—has been announced as the emcee of the second annual Diamond in the Rough Talent Competition, to take place on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m., at the Landis Theater, 830 E. Landis Ave., Vineland.
Organized by Main Street Vineland, with Century Savings Bank as the Gold Sponsor, the show will feature a variety of area talent—all vying for cash prizes and the opportunity to be named the next “Diamond in the Rough.”
Graves-El, a Vineland resident, has performed in numerous venues across multiple states with his highly-regarded and award-winning groups The KNomadz and KNomad Nation. He has acted on the stage in local community theatre, including the Cumberland Players’ recent production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. He is also an assistant content editor with SNJ Today.
Judging the show will be four esteemed judges—Dawson Coyle, singing sensation of the national television program “The Voice”; Kathi Testa Epifanio, noted singer, music teacher, and vocal coach; Frank Guaracini, Jr., entrepreneur, commercial real estate developer, and arts patron; and Rucsandra Maniaci (“Miss Sandra”) owner of The Arts of the Dance Centre, in Vineland.
“The auditions for the show brought out a tremendous variety of very fine talent,” said Main Street Vineland Executive Director Russell Swanson. “I think that it will be an exciting evening for all concerned, and adding Ahmad into the mix brings even more enthusiasm into the mix,”
Tickets for the show will be $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased by going online to Main Street Vineland’s website, www.TheAve.biz. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
