Bach, Reger, Musgrave Broadcast Concert
Music at Bunker Hill (MABH) presents the music of Bach, Reger, and Musgrave on January 24, 2021 at 3:00 pm online. Violist William Frampton will perform the Bach Cello Suite No. 4 in E flat Major, a selection from Suite for Viola Alone in G minor by Max Reger, and From One to Another for Viola and Tape by Thea Musgrave.
Thea Musgrave celebrated her 90th birthday three years ago in a very busy season with fanfare for her new works, several celebratory concerts featuring her music, and a visit with Queen Elizabeth II. Her piece From One to Another, written in 1971, will be nested within Bach’s Cello Suite No. 4 (c. 1720) along with a movement by Max Reger (1914). This program illuminates a new perspective on these wonderful works for solo viola. The time travel theme is enhanced by the fact that the tape part of From One to Another was recorded in London by Peter Mark in 1970 on the same viola that Frampton will perform on.
The concert will be broadcast over Zoom, a first for the series. There will be an introduction and a brief time for questions and discussion after the performance. This concert expands on the new model that MABH has developed to address health and safety concerns.
The concert is free, but guests must register to access the broadcast. They must have the Zoom application installed on their computer or device. Registration and concert information can be found at www.musicatbunkerhill.org. Donations are welcome to help defray production and artist expenses.
This program is made possible in part by funding from The Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission at Rowan College of South Jersey, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
