Box seats are available for $500 apiece and include seating for 12 and a VIP meet-and-greet with the Maestro after the concert—ideal for groups or company sales. Individual student tickets are $7 each. (Student ID or other proof of student status is required.) Additional service charges apply for all tickets. “We have been proud to have had the Landis Theater as Cumberland County’s home base for the Bay Atlantic Symphony—a genuine cultural jewel for this area—for the past two seasons,” said Main Street Executive Director Russell Swanson. “We are excited and pleased to continue this important relationship with this new season of concerts that will entertain, enlighten, and delight fans of great music.”
The season opener, on October 27 concert will feature Israeli pianist Tomer Gewirtzman in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2—one of the most famous of piano concerti. The concert will begin with one of the most familiar examples of orchestral Impressionism—Claude Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, followed by a genuine taste of Spain—the two suites from Manuel de Falla’s ballet The Three Cornered Hat.
A program of holiday cheer will mark the concert on December 8. It will include two sing-alongs, Johann Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Russell Steinberg’s Hanukkah medley Light’s On!, and two vocal selections—Ave Maria in the setting by Bach/Gounod and Adolph Adam’s O Holy Night.
With the January 19 concert, pianist Juho Pohjonen will be featured in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23. The concert will also include Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue. English composer Gerald Finzi’s Romance, the Symphony for Strings, by Giuseppe Verdi, famous for his operatic music.
The March 16 concert brings music of light and darkness—the languorous mood of Hector Berlioz’s song cycle Les Nuits d’été (Summer Nights), featuring the artistry of mezzo-soprano Cecilia Hall, and the power and light of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4.
The season ends on May 4 with works by two 20th-century locals—the American lyricism of West Chester, PA-born Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, featuring soloist Alexi Kenney and a special world premiere by New Jersey composer Amanda Harberg. The concert—and the season—will end with Ludwig van Beethoven’s musical picture of nature and serenity, his Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral.”
“With a lineup of great music like this, you won’t want to miss any of it,” Swanson said. “Get your tickets now!!”
