Food Industry Innovation Boosts Cumberland County Business
Cumberland County continues to blossom into a hotspot for business as exemplified by the new Food Specialization Center in Bridgeton, NJ. With this project, Cumberland County is expanding its local reach to the global stage.
The Cumberland County Development Authority and the City of Bridgeton were able to tap into New Jersey’s Community Capital’s (NJCC) New Market Tax Credit and THRIVE South Jersey economic initiative to help fund the Food Specialization Center. Both of the NJCC funding programs are made possible by seed grants provided by The Pascale Sykes Foundation as part of their South Jersey Economic Initiative to strengthen low-income, working-class families within New Jerseys Heartland.
Cumberland County and Bridgeton civic and business leaders hope the project will serve as a magnet for other business innovators and developers. The 32,000-square-foot facility will be filled with a wide range of equipment that businesses can use in their next steps coming from Rutgers FIC business incubator program or alternatively for international companies looking to establish businesses in the region. Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tony Stanzione said, “We’d like to promote the entrepreneurial spirit and we will foster partnerships and do what we have to do to bring new jobs and business to Bridgeton and the Cumberland County region.”
The Food Specialization Center is not the only business making strides towards a more innovative Cumberland County. The Vineland F&S Produce Facility has taken over the old Progresso soup plant, bringing back 208 jobs in addition to 60 new positions, as well as a positive impact on the economy.
