CIDER TASTING AT THE BLUE BALL TEMPERANCE SALOON
CIDER TASTING AT THE BLUE BALL TEMPERANCE SALOON FEATURED AT OLD TOWN HALL MUSEUM IN MULLICA HILL
Fall is cider season in South Jersey, and the Harrison Township Historical Society is celebrating this traditional beverage with a cider tasting on Saturday, October 12, 1-4 pm, during Mullica Hill’s Fall Festival. $2 flights of five flavors – apple, blackberry, blueberry, cherry and plum – will be available along with bottles of each for purchase at the “Blue Ball Temperance Saloon” at Old Town Hall Museum. The name recalls the town’s “temperance hotel” that once stood on North Main Street.
The event was inspired by the museum’s current exhibition, Last Call: Taverns and Temperance, which explores the colorful history of local taverns (respectable and notorious), distilleries and bootleg operations, the Temperance Movement and Prohibition, home winemaking and commercial wineries.
The installation features a diverse collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents accompanied by a series of songs and first-person narratives that are accessed by scanning QR codes located throughout the exhibition.
The ciders all come from Mood’s Farm Market. The Mood Farm is itself historic having been designated as a Century Farm by the New Jersey Agricultural Society. Century Farms have been in the same family and operational for at least 100 years. It is one of five so-designated farms in Old Harrison Township.
Old Town Hall Museum is located at 62 S. Main St., in the heart of the Mullica Hill Historic District. It is open Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 pm through December 7, and admission is free.
