CONTACT Cape-Atlantic Receives June 2021 New Jersey’s Heartland Hero Award
CONTACT Cape-Atlantic is not only on the other end of the line but has been a lifeline to many.
This organization was formed in 1973 and has made three million phone calls to older adults, people with disabilities, those who are lonely, living alone, or who feel isolated from their community. CONTACT Cape-Atlantic is home to 150 volunteers who make approximately 7,000 reassurance calls per month to an average of 200 clients per day. This vast team aims at lifting others up by providing a much-needed social atmosphere. For those individuals who are homebound or live alone, the daily reassurance calls from the volunteers at CONTACT Cape-Atlantic are a lifeline.
These calls have literally saved lives! If the person does not answer their scheduled call, the volunteers make sure the individual is okay. The volunteers are caring and selfless people who invest time to listen to those who need a friendly ear. Ranging in age from high school students to retirees, these unsung heroes help to provide a FREE and necessary service to those who want and need CONTACT Cape-Atlantic. CONTACT Cape-Atlantic has created a culture of safety in our communities by educating community members about the needs of older adults and people with disabilities.
For these reasons, New Jersey’s Heartland is proud to honor CONTACT Cape-Atlantic of Northfield, New Jersey, as the June 2021 Heartland Hero Winner. To learn more about CONTACT Cape-Atlantic, please visit www.contactcapeatlantic.org.
