Downtown Glassboro Gets New Fountain In Town Square
120 years ago, Downtown Glassboro’s public fountain inexplicably disappeared. A few years after it was moved to South Academy Street to prevent automobile accidents, it completely vanished. To this day , no one has been able to solve the mystery. In recognizing the significance of this local folklore , a new public fountain has been installed in Town Square just in time for Glassboro’s 100th Year Anniversary of incorporation in 2020.
This fountain looks a lot different than the one that greeted visitors and residents more than a century ago. People can expect to see unique light and water shows during different times of day and seasons. It can also be programmed for events and special occasions.
Glassboro ‘s Town Square has been refurbished in an effort to promote public spaces and events. At the beginning of the summer, the borough finished a building of new public restrooms and exterior drinking fountains. The exterior of the building will be painted to highlight Glassboro’s rich history , which includes industry , the arts, environmental preservation, diverse cultures, and more.
Today, the town square includes amenities and landmarks such as the Glassblower Statue , Veteran’s Memorial, Fireman ‘s Memorial Art Garden , fire pits, a stage, fresh grass, and a downtown area complete with premiere entertainment and dining spots. This public fountain will serve as the centerpiece of downtown Glassboro: tying together past and present , perhaps even offering a glimpse into the bright future.
