SUMMARY:Honey Combs and Honey Beads Glassworking Class
DESCRIPTION:Class description: In this class students will learn all they need to know to make gorgeous honeycomb pieces as well as using the same techniques to make honeycomb beads that can be strung\, honeycomb encased beads and honeycomb encased beads with bee murrini. Students will learn the techniques to make each honeycomb piece completely unique through demonstration\, questions\, answers and hands-on learning. On day 1 of this class students will be creating the cells that make up the honeycombs using basic honey colors. Students will then move on to learning how to create depth and interest in their pieces through the use of color layering. We will put the pieces together to form honeycombs and students will learn how to achieve the look of honey dripping from the pieces. Students will also learn to take the cells and make beads with them. On day 2 students will learn the basics of cold working. Students will take the honeycombs and beads they have made and learn to coldwork them using a flat lap machine and/or wet belt sander. These skills are not only needed for the honeycombs but can also be very useful in other work. Students will continue to make honeycomb pieces and will learn how to add murrini to them. Students will learn several different ways to make encased honeycomb beads as well as adding murrini to those beads. We will cover the basics of placing murrini and encasing them. Bio: A new marriage and a move across the state of Colorado high into the Rocky Mountains in 2010 brought Lezlie tumbling happily back to her creative side. Having been a 911 dispatcher for 10 years she was tired of turmoil and welcomed the calm and serenity of her new surroundings with open arms. Fond childhood memories of a glass blower in the window of a shop in Old Town Albuquerque\, where she grew up\, had her imagining herself working with glass. Coming from a background of diverse creativity it was easy for her to go from dreams of glass to actually making it. Honeycombs\, honey-themed beads\, under the sea beads and habitat beads are her favorite designs to make because they take a lot of thought in the construction. Making all of the pieces and then placing them just right\, fitting them together\, and creating something totally unique and beautiful is like magic for her. She is a proud member of the ISGB where she also serves as a Director at Large. She was very honored to be included as a speaker at the 2017 ISGB conference\, The Gathering\, where she enlightened the audience with facts on honey bees and demonstrated making a glass honeycomb. She is also a supporter of Beads of Courage and contributes artisan made beads\, fulfills dream bead requests and is creating the July bead of the month for fundraising. She stays busy as a bee\, so to speak\, with festivals and markets most of the year but loves to travel with her husband\, ride their mules and boat on the nearby lake when there is time. \nClass: Honeycombs and Honey Beads Instructor: Leslie Foster Level: Intermediate to Advanced Price: $490 Lunch and some materials included. See Student list. Can be purchased in advance at Carlisle if needed. Time: 10AM-5PM Dates: April 28th\, 29th\, 2018 \n856-825-0627

SUMMARY:Symbiotic Spheres: The Interlocking Worlds of Glass\, Science and Art
DESCRIPTION:This expansive exhibition\, curated by Brooklyn artist Benjamin Wright\, features over 20 contemporary artists whose work is inspired by science. The artwork on display will allow visitors to explore the role of creativity endemic to both science and art\, while showcasing glass as a medium that provides a challenge to their perceived divide. At every turn\, glass materially magnifies\, distorts and illuminates this transdisciplinary world of wonder. \n856-825-6800
