SUMMARY:WheatonArts 22nd Annual Festival of Fine Craft
DESCRIPTION:Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center celebrates 22 years of artistic excellence with the Festival of Fine Craft on October 2 and 3\, rain or shine! This annual event features the work of 125 juried contemporary and traditional artists\, unique craft demonstrations\, a Beer & Wine Garden\, family art activities\, and more! Throughout the WheatonArts campus\, attendees can engage with artists exhibiting and selling their handcrafted works of art in various mediums\, such as clay\, glass\, jewelry\, leather\, textiles\, wood\, and more. \nCraft demonstrations this year include a unique hands-on Maya sawdust carpet project\, along with Guatemalan master weavers Armando Sosa and Angélica López sharing centuries-old weaving techniques. \n“Scarecrow Construction” is notably one of the favorite family activities each year\, with a wild assortment of clothing and plenty of straw to create life-size scarecrows to take home! Everyone can experience the creative process with additional complimentary art-making activities (paper bowl scarecrow faces\, tissue paper stained glass apples\, and beaded fall corn)\, thanks to a special PNC Arts Alive grant. Other fee-based artistic hands-on opportunities\, such as designing a silk scarf and basket weaving\, will be available throughout the grounds. \nCape May Brewery and Bellview Winery return to our relaxing Beer & Wine Garden environment behind an entrance wall displaying handcrafted glass goblets. Various gourmet food vendors and specialty food trucks will line the food court with refreshments for purchase. Additionally\, visitors can enjoy live musical entertainment from South Jersey’s own Package Goods\nOrchestra. For added Festival fun\, visitors can stop by the information table after entering through the gates and sign up for a chance to win a variety of WheatonArts door prizes. The Festival’s Glass Pumpkin Fundraiser will be back in a limited fashion. This outdoor installation invites attendees to browse limited-edition handcrafted glass pumpkins of all shapes\, sizes\, and colors—each individually handcrafted by WheatonArts’ resident glass artists. Located across from the Pottery Studio\, the glass pumpkins will be available for purchase\, with proceeds supporting arts educational programming at WheatonArts. Is it necessary to note that due to\ndiminished production time and staff during COVID restrictions\, the patch will be smaller than in past years\, pumpkin quantities are limited. \nFor the health and safety of our artists\, staff\, and audiences\, and based on the recommendations of the CDC\, masks must be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will also be required outdoors when social distancing is not possible. The Festival of Fine Craft is included with general admission to WheatonArts. Admission at the gate is $12 adults\, $11 senior adults\, $7 students\, and free for WheatonArts members and children ages five or younger. Buy your tickets in advance online to save $2.00 per ticket! The offer ends on September 26\, 2021. Experience the Festival along with special exhibitions in the Museum of American Glass and Down Jersey Folklife Center. Admission ticket special: ask for a “Tomorrow Pass” upon exiting the Festival on Saturday to get free access to the Festival on Sunday! Available by request only. Parking and shuttle service are also available free of charge. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day\, rain or shine. Event programming is subject to change. For more information\, call 856-825-6800 or 800-998-4552\, or visit wheatonarts.org. \nWheatonArts is currently open Friday through Sunday\, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, April through December. Closed on Thanksgiving Day\, Christmas Day\, and New Year’s Day. WheatonArts strives to ensure the accessibility of its exhibitions\, events\, and programs to all persons with disabilities. Please provide two weeks notice for additional needs. Patrons with hearing and speech disabilities may contact WheatonArts through the New Jersey Relay Service (TRS) 800-852-7899 or by dialing 711. Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts\, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey Cultural Trust. WheatonArts receives general operating support from the New Jersey Historical Commission\, Division of Cultural Affairs in the New Jersey Department of State\, and is supported in part by the New Jersey Department of State\, Division of Travel and Tourism.\n___________________________________________________________\nAbout WheatonArts \nWith a history spanning five decades\, WheatonArts has earned regional\, national and international recognition for its unique collections and programs. The Museum of American Glass\, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums\, houses one of the most comprehensive collections of American glass in the country – from the first glass bottles made in America to celebrated works by Dale Chihuly\, Paul Stankard\, and other contemporary artists who work in glass. Visitors experience the art of glassmaking\, ceramics and flameworking in the Artists Studios. From April through December the Museum of American Glass\, Gallery of Fine Craft\, and Down Jersey Folklife Center present special exhibitions. WheatonArts also offers traditional and multi-cultural programs\, classes\, workshops\, performances\, and weekend festivals. SUMMARY:Annual Olde Stone House Village Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Annual Olde Stone House Village Harvest Fest will welcome the public on Saturday\, September 11\, 2021 for a day of live history re-enactment\, games\, and children’s activities. The family friendly free event will take place from 10 am until 2 pm at the Olde Stone House Village\, 208 Egg Harbor Road in Washington Township\, Sewell\, NJ. \nOpen hearth cooking will be demonstrated in the c 1765 Morgan Stone House\, blacksmiths will set up their forge; and around the grounds\, costumed crafters will demonstrate Colonial arts such as candle making\, spinning\, weaving\, and quilting. Children can have their photo taken in costume\, paint pumpkins\, and try their hand at Colonial era games. \nThe day will be full of learning and educational opportunities. Beginning at 10:00 am\, Nick Frankunas will be at the village Railroad station to present the History of South Jersey Railroading. At 11:00 am\, Author and re-enactor Kat Lindsay will portray Harriet Tubman\, the famous antislavery activist from the 19th century. Ms. Lindsay will also display quilts and her children’s books about slavery. Beck’s Band will play Civil War era Music at the Gazebo\, and Mr. Mark Carroll\, a long-time feature at the City Tavern in Philadelphia\, will be in the Bunker Hill Church from noon on performing and discussing the music of the Colonial era. Throughout the day\, the 12th New Jersey Regiment K re-enactors will have an encampment showing the life of a Civil War soldier. \nThe village consists of five historic buildings on a 5+ acre site including a church\, Post Office\, farmhouse\, and railroad station\, and featuring the Morgan Stone House which is on the National Registry of Historic Sites. The purpose of the village is to preserve Washington Twp history and to educate the public. There is no charge for the Harvest Fest\, though the public is encouraged to donate as fundraising is the main source of maintaining the site. Repairs on the buildings are expensive as the structures are historic\, meaning special contractors with expertise in historic buildings must work on them. \nThe Harvest Fest is sponsored by the Washington Twp Historic Preservation Commission and the Friends of the Olde Stone House Village. Funding is provided by the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission and the New Jersey Historic Commission.
