SUMMARY:Americana Folk Band Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:Americana Folk Band to Headline Benefit Concert for Memorial Marine Science Scholarship at Stockton \n         GALLOWAY – 5-piece modern-folk Americana act\, The Way Down Wanderers will headline a concert April. 7th\, 8 p.m. at Stockton University Campus Center to benefit the Stacy Moore Hagan Memorial Estuarine Internship Operating Fund at the University. \nEqual parts fast-paced and soulful\, The Way Down Wanderers draw listeners in with energy\, originality and soulful generosity.  Playing\, performing and writing together for just 3 short years\, the Wanderers have built an enthusiastic and fast-growing following. Youthful and professionally trained\, captivated audiences hear soaring instrumentals\, foot stomping sing-alongs and have created a buzz for themselves with their unplugged propensity for performing self-titled\, “restSTOMPS” – free acoustic sets at rest & truck stops along their tour routes. The band’s debut\, self-titled album\, produced by Mike Marsh of the Avett Brothers is now available wherever music is sold. \nThe concert benefits a memorial undergraduate marine science internship operating fund named for Stockton graduate and former West Creek resident Stacy Hagan. Two $2\,500 scholarships provide an eight-week summer research experience for students interested in pursuing graduate studies or entry-level technician positions in marine science. Opportunities are available at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station in Tuckerton and the Stockton Nacote Creek Marine Field Station in Port Republic. \nStacy Hagan was a marine research scientist at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station for 17 years when she died in 2007. “Her successful career in marine science was made possible by a cooperative internship offered through Stockton and we want other hard-working Stockton students who enjoy field work to follow in Stacy’s footsteps\,” said Roland Hagan\, Rutgers University Marine Field Station Operations Coordinator\, who established the scholarship in 2008 in memory of his late wife. \nAccording to Hagan\, to date\, 15 students were awarded $37\,500 in scholarship monies through the Stockton Foundation. \nThe April 7th benefit concert is presented by Folk Across the Street productions. The ticket price\, $20 in advance\, $25 at the door and $10 with student ID\, will support the internship program. SUMMARY:The Way Down Wanderers
DESCRIPTION:Stockton University Campus Center Theater \nDoors open at 7 PM \nStudents $10\nOnline Tickets $20\nDoor Tickets $25 \nCash Bar\nFree Food \nPRESS & REVIEWS \n“…the band actually emerged fully formed\, possessing a certain savvy that assures their ability to stand apart in a crowded field of nu-grass contenders. It also assumes that while The Way Down Wanderers may have only just begun their musical journey\, they’ve come quite far already.” \n   – Lee Zimmerman\, Relix Magazine \n“Their brand new self-titled LP features rip-roaring banjo\, carefree mandolin\, soaring harmonies\, and lush low-end strings. The Way Down Wanderers embark on a locomotive-like barn-burning adventure and beckon us to join—from the first notes of opener “Dead Birds”\, a foot-stomping folk tune\, to road-trip worthy ramblers like “Circles” and “Blacktop Highway”\, with some snarling guitar-rock thrown in for good measure on tracks like “Changing”\, there’s a sparkling gem waiting to be discovered around every single corner on this album.” \n

SUMMARY:Lucy Kaplansky Concert
DESCRIPTION:Folk Singer/Songwriter to Headline Benefit Concert for Memorial Marine Science Scholarship at Stockton\n \nGALLOWAY – American folk great\, Lucy Kaplansky will headline a concert Friday\, Feb. 3 rd \, 8 p.m. at Stockton University Campus Center Theater to benefit the Stacy Moore Hagan Memorial Estuarine Internship Operating Fund at the University. \nStarting out singing in Chicago bars and barely out of high school\, Lucy Kaplansky took off for New York City. There she found a fertile community of songwriters and performers—Suzanne Vega\, Steve Forbert\, The Roches\, and others. With a beautiful flair for harmony\, Lucy was everyone’s favorite singing partner\, but most often she found herself singing as a duo with Shawn Colvin. People envisioned big things for them; in fact\, The New York Times said it was “easy to predict stardom for her.” \n \nThe concert benefits a memorial undergraduate marine science internship operating fund named for Stockton graduate and former West Creek resident Stacy Hagan. \nStacy Hagan was a marine research scientist at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station for 17 years when she succumbed to breast cancer in 2007. \nAccording to Hagan\, 15 students have received $37\,500 in scholarship monies to date through the Stockton Foundation. \nThe February 3rd benefit concert is presented by Folk Across the Street productions. The ticket price will support the internship program. Tickets for the show are $20 in advance\, $25 at the door and $10 with student ID. For tickets go to www.LucyKaplansky.com/shows and “buy tickets”.
