DESCRIPTION:Free on October 26\, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the WheatonArts Event Center\, enjoy a vivid introduction to the unique Asian traditions associated with the Moon and Lantern Festivals of East Asia! Narrated music and dance performances will feature Japanese Minyo dances and Taiko drumming\, traditional Korean dances\, the Chinese lantern dance\, a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai costume show\, the Chinese Peking Opera\, as well as a musical performance featuring a zither and vocals. \nFree admission for the East Asian Autumn Festival is provided by the “WheatonArts Family Days! Presented by PNC Arts Alive” program. \nThe “East Asian Autumn Festival” is part of the Down Jersey Folklife Center’s “Near and Far: Arts and Cultures of East Asia” project\, presented in partnership with Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission and Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Major support for this partnership project has been provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts\, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

DESCRIPTION:Water/Ways\, an exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street\, explores the relationship between people and water. It explores the centrality of water in our lives including its effect on the environment and climate\, its practical role in agriculture and economic planning\, its impact on culture and spirituality\, as well as its inspiring contributions to art and music. WheatonArts\, in cooperation with the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH)\, will examine water as an environmental necessity and an important cultural element as it hosts the traveling “Water/Ways” exhibition. Open October 15 through November 17\, 2019\, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Gallery of Fine Craft at WheatonArts. \nParticipate in a public discussion on Saturday\, October 19\, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. as NJCH hosts the “What is Your Water Story?” workshop and enjoy FREE admission to WheatonArts for the entire day\, part of “Family Days! DESCRIPTION:Please join us on August 17th to remember our good friend Dr. Fossil who passed away in 2017. Edward Lauginiger was a teacher\, an amateur paleontologist\, a member of the Delaware Mineralogical Society\, Inc.\, a volunteer at the Delaware Museum of Natural History and also a HUGE toy collector. Ed especially loved GI Joe and Star Wars and had a soft spot for Jurassic Park and dinosaurs in general. He even discovered a new species of ancient animal fossil that’s named after him! \nWe were all incredibly saddened by Ed’s passing and would like to invite both those who knew him and strangers alike to celebrate and honor him for his birthday! \nSo … how are we celebrating the life of a real-world John Hammond?\nFirstly\, we were lucky enough to acquire some items from Ed’s personal collection which will be on display\, including Ripley the Life-Sized Raptor\, now in her new forever-home! \nIn addition\, Ed often treated kids at the Delaware Museum of Natural History with free dino toys\, and in his honor we will be doing the same (while supplies last)! \nAND we’ll also be screening some of Ed’s favorite films including Jurassic Park! \nFREE dinosaur toys for the kids and Jurassic Park?!
