This three day “Festival of Pumpkins” will be held at the Salem County Fairgrounds\, 735 Harding Highway\, Woodstown\, New Jersey. The event has new show hours of Friday\, 5pm to 10pm\, Saturday and Sunday\, 10am to 5pm. \nThe South Jersey Pumpkin Show has become one of the best ways to welcome the autumn harvest with kids and parents alike. Festival goers visiting will enjoy pumpkin desserts\, 100+ artists & craftsmen\, Salem County Fall Home Show\, fun contests\, give-a-ways\, Pumpkin Toss\, live bands\, wine sampling\, festival food court\, NJ Largest Baked Pumpkin Pie\, South Jersey Tractor Pull\, pony rides and hayrides around the fairgrounds. Vote for your favorite hand-crafted scarecrows and voting forms available at the Fairgrounds office. \nNew for 2017 is the “Fall Festival of Trees Exhibit” and contest. Colorful trees will be decorated in Halloween\, Thanksgiving and Autumn themes. Tree lighting will be held indoors at 7:30pm on Friday\, October 13 and tree exhibit will be on display until closing Sunday\, October 15. Live and artificial trees will vary in size from tabletop to 7ft tall. Contest is open to adults\, clubs and groups. \nOpening night\, Friday\, will showcase the sculpturing of a 500+ pound pumpkin by a professional carver. Come learn tips and watch a masterpiece being created. The reading of Sleepy Hollow legend and the arrival of the Headless Horsemen will take place in the graveyard with two performances. Family Halloween Costume Contest & Parade\, Kids under ten will enjoy free craft making\, amusement rides\, free pumpkins\, trick or treating stroll\, straw garden and Halloween treat bags. \nSaturday activities includes the South Jersey Antique Tractor Pull\, Decorated Baby Strollers and Adults Pumpkin Toss with over $500 in prize money awarded. This show attracts over 40 quality dealers and hundreds of visitors from the Mid-Atlantic region. \nLocated in the Event Center at WheatonArts\, attendees explore a wide selection of antique furniture\, books\, ceramics\, glass\, jewelry\, linens\, memorabilia\, paper\, toys\, pottery\, primitives\, and vintage accessories. \nShow hours: Saturday\, February 4 – WheatonArts Members Preview at 9:30 a.m. General Public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday\, February 5\, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. \nAdmission is $5.00 per person. \nFood and refreshments will be available for purchase in the Event Center. DESCRIPTION:MAIN STREET VINELAND PLANS\nSCARECROW CONTEST AND PUMPKIN PATCH PARTY IN DOWNTOWN VINELAND \n“Scarecrow Challenge” Event Partnership with Vineland Board of Education\nPumpkin Patch Party at Mini-Parks on October 29 \nVINELAND\, NJ—Main Street Vineland is planning two downtown major events for the Halloween season—a month-long Scarecrow Challenge contest and a Pumpkin Patch Party on Saturday\, October 29. \nThe Scarecrow Challenge is being organized in partnership with the Vineland Board of Education. All Vineland public and private schools\, as well as local clubs and organizations are invited to design scarecrows. The scarecrows\, situated on frames made available through the Board of Education\, will be mounted on downtown lampposts on Landis Avenue. Some lampposts will be decorated with corn stalks. \nThose interested in entering a scarecrow can contact the Main Street Vineland office. The deadline for entering scarecrows will be October 7 and they will go up on October 17. For more information on entering a scarecrow\, call the Main Street Vineland office at (856) 794-8653. To order a frame\, contact Ross Stanger\, the Vineland Board of Education’s supervisor of instruction\, at (856) 794-6700\, ext. 2016 or at rstanger@vineland.org. \nThe public can vote for the best scarecrow by going to the link on the Main Street Vineland website—www.mainstreetvineland.org—or you can vote by paper ballot in selected downtown Vineland stores. Voting will end at midnight on Thursday\, October 27. \n“We want this to be a real community event—school students and adults from community groups—to bring fall cheer to our downtown\,” said Main Street Vineland Executive Director Russell Swanson. “I want to thank Ross Stanger and the Vineland Board of Education for being a strong partner in this and really playing a major part in making this happen.” \nThe winning scarecrow will be announced at the Pumpkin Patch Party\, which is set for Saturday\, October 29\, from 11 to 1 p.m. The mini-parks\, at Landis Avenue and the Boulevard\, will be decorated for fall\, with hay bales\, pumpkins\, corn stalks\, and mums. The party will include a variety of fun seasonal games\, pumpkin-painting and pumpkin seed spitting contests\, exercise classes\, through the Vineland Health Department\, a DJ\, and much more. The winner of the Scarecrow Challenge and the two runner-ups will be announced and they will receive prizes. \n“This is yet another way in which we\, as a community\, are making our downtown a focal point for our city and making our mini-parks the kind of center of activity for which they were created\,” Swanson said. “It is all part of Vineland Pride.
