DESCRIPTION:Popa Chubby w/ special guest Lower Case Blues\nApril 1st\, 2022 @8:00 pm \nPopa Chubby\, born Ted Horowitz\, has been hard rocking the blues in his fierce and soulful way for more than 30 years. Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994\, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar\, and his tempestuous\, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head\, tattooed arms\, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy\, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters\, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson\,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures. \nHis career has always been about moving forward and carving a place for himself in the imposing terrain of the music business\, overcoming odds to continue growing and maturing as a creative force. He has built a constantly increasing base of fans across the world\, where in many territories he is a star. A native New Yorker\, Horowitz’s first gigs were in the NYC punk scene as a guitarist for what he reflects was a “crazy Japanese special effects performance artist in a kimono called Screaming Mad George who had a horror-movie inspired show.” Right from the start he was immersed in rock ‘n’ roll as theater\, and learned from George and others playing CBGB’s at the time that included the Ramones\, the Cramps\, Richard Hell\, whose band\, the Voidoids he joined that rock ‘n’ roll should be dangerous. He reflects\, “Musicians like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols weren’t just bands. They were a threat to society.” \nThe Blues however was the foundation of his playing style. He recalls\, “Since I’d grown up on Hendrix\, Cream and Led Zeppelin\, when I started playing blues in New York clubs I understood that the blues should be dangerous\, too. It wasn’t just from playing in punk bands. Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters were dangerous men. They’d cut or shoot you if they thought it was necessary\, and Little Walter packed a gun and wouldn’t hesitate to use it. That danger is a real part of the Blues and I keep it alive in my music.” \nPopa Chubby is his own man for better or worse. He reflects\, “I’m living in a wild time\, and that is where the inspiration is drawn from. There are my issues\, but the picture is much bigger than me and my situation. Draw The Line boasts accolades from Steven Tyler & Joey Kramer as well as family & friends of the legendary rock group. This is as authentic as it can ever get! Come see for yourself! \nHailing from Boston\, Mass.\, The city that boasts the World Championship Red Sox\, The New England Patriots\, the musical groups Boston\, members of Journey\, J.Geils\, and Peter Wolf\, Godsmack\, of course Aerosmith. Adding to the subculture of this city is Draw The Line the Aerosmith Tribute Band. The bands career\, now spanning almost fifteen years\, has taken them all over the world. The band has performed in all but two U.S. states. They have also been to Peurto Rico\, the U.S. Virgin Islands\, and other U.S. territories. They have toured to other countries such as England\, Canada\, South America and Japan just to name a few. With over 2000 performances in over 100 cities\, Draw The Line is sure soon to be in a venue near you! \nDuring a January 1998 interview\, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler singled out Draw The Line as the best of the Aerosmith tribute bands. DTL has also had featured articles in international fanzines\, Boston area newspapers such as The Patriot Ledger\, The Boston Globe\, The Mariner papers\, etc. \nThey are the only tribute band who has been featured on the Official Aerosmith Website as well as that of Aerosmith’s Official Fan Club. With support and accolades from Aerosmith themselves\, as well as journalists\, top DJs\, and fans worldwide\, its no wonder that Draw The Line is recognized as a one-of-a-kind. “A professional show band in a league of their own amongst tribute acts\, and of a caliber that is unparalleled in the tribute genre” says reporter\, Joe Reardon of the Mariner Newspaper Group. \nThe group’s fanatical popularity was evident the evening of January 1\, 1999\, when it played at the former Mama Kins Music Hall in Boston in front of a sold out crowd of 800. The former model & actor continues to croon the classic standards of the American songbook with a passion that resonates very well with his audience. Having been trained vocally under the tutelage of professor Laurence Bogue (Juilliard School)\, Dottoli encompasses the necessary vocal disciplines of breathing\, diction and interpretation\, the necessary techniques Sinatra learned early in his career. \nBorn and raised in New Jersey\, a teenage Dottoli quickly discovered the talents of fellow New Jersey born entertainer Frank Sinatra. DESCRIPTION:La Cage aux Folles\nFebruary 11 8:00 pm \nLa Cage aux Folles\, based on the 1973 French play of the same name by Jean Poiret\, tells the story of a gay couple\, Georges\, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment\, and Albin\, his romantic partner and star attraction\, and the farcical adventures that ensue when Georges’s son\, Jean-Michel\, brings home his fiancée’s ultra-conservative parents to meet them. La Cage aux Folles literally means “the cage of crazy women”. However\, folles is also a slang term for effeminate homosexuals (queens). \nOpening on Broadway in 1983\, La Cage broke barriers for gay representation by becoming the first hit Broadway musical centered on a homosexual relationship. The show’s Act One finale\, “I Am What I Am”\, received praise as a “gay anthem” and has been widely recorded. \nThe original production ran for more than four years (1\,761 performances)\, and won six Tony Awards\, including Best Musical\, Best Score and Best Book. \nThe success of the musical spawned a West End production and several international runs. The 2004 Broadway revival won the Tony Award for Best Revival\, and the 2008 London revival garnered the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The 2010 Broadway revival was nominated for eleven Tony Awards\, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. La Cage aux Folles is the first musical which has won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical twice and it has won a Best Musical Tony Award (Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical) for each of its Broadway productions. DESCRIPTION:David Bromberg\nCelebrating 50 Years of Music \nJanuary 30\, 2022 @7:00 pm \nWith his 1971 self-titled Columbia Records release\, David Bromberg emerged as the wunderkind of American roots music. The disc’s compelling blend of traditional and original material\, virtuosic musicianship and iconic cover art trumpeted the arrival of a new artist possessed of audacious and uncompromising vision. Over the course of four albums for Columbia and five for Fantasy Records\, and through associations with artists like Bob Dylan\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, John Hartford\, George Harrison\, the Grateful Dead\, Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt\, Bromberg’s reputation\, repertoire and following grew exponentially. However\, the incessant demands of touring finally brought the band’s recordings and shows to an end in the early 1980’s. \nThe twenty-two year drought ended in 2006 with the release of the Grammy-nominated solo effort Try Me One More Time. Gradually tour dates were added and bandmembers assembled as David\, in 2011\, followed up Try Me with Use Me\, a typically unorthodox Brombergian effort\, partnering him with some of the most celebrated names in music – Linda Ronstadt\, Vince Gill\, Los Lobos\, Dr John\, Keb’ Mo\, John Hiatt\, Levon Helm and others – whom David asked to either write or choose songs and then produce him doing them. \nTwo more albums emerged from 2013 to 2017\, Only Slightly Mad and The Blues the Whole Blues and Nothing But the Blues\, both produced by three-time Grammy winner Larry Campbell. Recorded at Levon Helm’s Barn\, Only Slightly Mad brought the band back to David’s eclectic ‘kitchen sink’ musical philosophy\, while with The Whole Blues\, David upheld Texas fiddler Johnny Gimbel’s claim that: “There are only two songs – the Star-Spangled Banner and the Blues.” The band skipped over the ‘Banner’ and headed straight for the blues\, winning the 2017 Downbeat Critic’s Poll for Best Blues Album. \nEventually David’s band settled into its current lineup of Mark Cosgrove (guitar\, mandolin\, vocals)\, Nate Grower (fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, vocals)\, Josh Kanusky (drums\, vocals) and newest member\, Suavek Zaniesienko (bass\, vocals). This nucleus has performed hundreds of shows together\, traversing thousands of miles\, across the US & Canada to Europe\, Japan and Australia. With the group having attained a high level of musical telepathy\, they entered the studio in mid 2019 for a slightly different approach to record making…. \nThe new album\, Big Road\, will give Bromberg fans the most intimate portrait to date of David and the band\, musically and visually. Featuring twelve new tracks\, five hi def performance videos and a mini documentary detailing the album’s creation\, it will be released in three formats: traditional CD\, a gatefold vinyl album and a CD/DVD combo pack. In an age where recorded music has been devalued and relegated to a digital stream for smart phones\, Big Road returns the listener to the golden age of record making\, when enjoying an album was a tactile\, visual and auditory experience.
