SUMMARY:Volunteer for the Glassboro Community Playground Build.
DESCRIPTION:We need your help!\nVolunteer for the Glassboro Community Playground Build.\nIn 2019\, over 200 residents\, students\, and local friends of Glassboro\, New Jersey came together to build the playground at Renlund Park that has since seen thousands of families enjoy the playground while taking time to enjoy the great outdoors\, exercising\, and have fun. We are going to do it again at Owens Field Park on July 10\, 2021.\nA community-built playground project is all about bringing a sense of fun\, freedom\, and creativity to children. Play is a necessity\, not a luxury. Children who engage in active play perform better in school\, think more creatively\, maintain healthier body weights\, and are better able to resolve their problems peacefully. Safe play spaces also let children experience the joy of just being a kid\, free of adult worries and responsibilities. All children deserve these opportunities! Just as play is essential to a child’s physical\, mental and social development\, so does a community-build project contribute to the health and vibrancy of the entire community.\nCommunity build playgrounds bring out the best in people. Not only are they building a community gathering space\, but they’re helping build community\, pride\, and a sense of ownership. Even more\, by volunteering just a few hours of help\, volunteers are helping the Borough of Glassboro save 30% on installation costs. This playground will cost $65\,000 and by having a community build to put it together\, the Borough saves $15\,000 on installation costs\, allows us to purchase more playground equipment\, and provides a sense of Glassboro pride and ownership in the community.\nExperience is helpful\, but not necessary as Borough Employees and the playground manufacturers crew will be building right alongside the volunteers and ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being.\nSIGN UP IS EASY for groups\, families\, businesses\, organizations. We only ask that all volunteers are OVER THE AGE OF 13.\nStill have questions? Call (856) 881-1501 or email Joe Blandino at jblandino@glassboro.org

SUMMARY:Million Meals Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Help us in supporting our local community food banks from coast-to-coast. During the coronavirus pandemic\, the majority of network food banks are reporting a record increase in number of people requesting food assistance. With many schools remaining closed for distance learning\, there is even more stress to help ensure children\, who normally eat free or reduced-price meals at school\, continue to have access to healthy food. Millions of people are requesting help from food banks for the first time. \nTo support our community\, Deptford Mall has partnered with South Jersey Dream Center to collect non-perishable food items. Donations are now being accepted through October 31st in Center Court and at Things Remembered. \n*Bring your food items to Things Remembered & Receive 25% off your in-store purchase. \nThe most urgently-needed items include:\nCanned vegetables & fruits\, canned and boxed meals (i.e.\, soup\, chili\, stew\, macaroni & cheese)\, canned or dried beans and peas (i.e.\, black\, pinto\, lentils)\, pasta\, rice\, low sugar cereals\, peanut butter\, baby formula & baby foods (check expiration dates)\, holiday foods (cranberry sauce\, dry stuffing mix\, cake mixes & frosting\, etc.\,instant mixes like potatoes\, gravies and sauces that add a little something special to a holiday meal\, canned meats (tuna\, chicken\, salmon) that do not require refrigeration before opening\, 100% fruit juice (canned\, plastic or boxed). \nIf you’re unable to provide food items\, we’re also accepting monetary donations on South Jersey Dream Center’s behalf. \nMAKE A MONETARY DONATION TO SOUTH JERSEY DREAM CENTER HERE \nWorking with our partner properties throughout the country\, we’re aiming to help serve a million meals to those in need. We thank you for your generosity.
