SUMMARY:Glassboro Dedicates its First Public Art Mural
DESCRIPTION:Glassboro dedicates its first public art mural which highlights iconic figures\, places and events from Glassboro’s cultural heritage on Thursday\, July 15th\, at 6:30pm in the Glassboro Town Square. The dedication is open to the public and will feature speakers from the Borough and the artists. \nLocated on the exterior wall of the restroom pavilion on the South side area of the Glassboro Town Square visible from High Street\, The Glassboro Legacy Mural represents the historical arc of the Borough of Glassboro highlighting significant events\, places and people from the first inhabitants to our agricultural legacy and on to our growing diverse population. It will contain important landmarks such as Angelo’s Diner\, The Glassboro Historic Train Station\, and the Elsmere neighborhood. Technology will be introduced for viewers of the mural to access videos about significant events by scanning QR codes that are incorporated in the design and it will feature a glass mosaic in honor of our glassmaking heritage. \n“The Borough is delighted to collaborate with residents and local artists on this outdoor mural project\,” said Councilman Andrew Halter. “In addition to creating a beautiful work of art for visitors to our downtown\, it celebrates the history and diversity of Glassboro with the local community through art.” \nAbout the Artists\nJonathan Laidacker has over 15 years of experience as a muralist and teaching artist\, primarily in Philadelphia. He has received over 100 commissions for murals\, primarily Mural Arts Philadelphia\, but also from other organizations such as the Lumpkin Foundation\, the Sprout fun\, and the Pennsylvania Council of Arts. \nEric Okdeh has over 20 years of experience working in communities\, schools\, city governments and organizations around the country and the world to create over 150 public works of art throughout the northeast United States as well as murals in Hawaii\, Spain\, Jordan\, and Norway. SUMMARY:Volunteer for the Glassboro Community Playground Build.
DESCRIPTION:We need your help!\nVolunteer for the Glassboro Community Playground Build.\nIn 2019\, over 200 residents\, students\, and local friends of Glassboro\, New Jersey came together to build the playground at Renlund Park that has since seen thousands of families enjoy the playground while taking time to enjoy the great outdoors\, exercising\, and have fun. We are going to do it again at Owens Field Park on July 10\, 2021.\nA community-built playground project is all about bringing a sense of fun\, freedom\, and creativity to children. Play is a necessity\, not a luxury. Children who engage in active play perform better in school\, think more creatively\, maintain healthier body weights\, and are better able to resolve their problems peacefully. Safe play spaces also let children experience the joy of just being a kid\, free of adult worries and responsibilities. All children deserve these opportunities! Just as play is essential to a child’s physical\, mental and social development\, so does a community-build project contribute to the health and vibrancy of the entire community.\nCommunity build playgrounds bring out the best in people. Not only are they building a community gathering space\, but they’re helping build community\, pride\, and a sense of ownership. Even more\, by volunteering just a few hours of help\, volunteers are helping the Borough of Glassboro save 30% on installation costs. This playground will cost $65\,000 and by having a community build to put it together\, the Borough saves $15\,000 on installation costs\, allows us to purchase more playground equipment\, and provides a sense of Glassboro pride and ownership in the community.\nExperience is helpful\, but not necessary as Borough Employees and the playground manufacturers crew will be building right alongside the volunteers and ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being.\nSIGN UP IS EASY for groups\, families\, businesses\, organizations. We only ask that all volunteers are OVER THE AGE OF 13.\nStill have questions? Call (856) 881-1501 or email Joe Blandino at jblandino@glassboro.org

SUMMARY:Always...Patsy Cline\, The Broadway Theatre of Pitman
DESCRIPTION:July 9 – July 18 \n“Always…Patsy Cline” has enjoyed great success all over the United States\, including a successful run off-Broadway. It has been one of the most produced musicals in America according to American Theatre Magazine. “Always…Patsy Cline” has also been enjoyed internationally by audiences in Canada\, the UK and Australia. \n“Always…Patsy Cline” is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger\, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961\, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. \nThe musical play\, complete with down home country humor\, true emotion and even some audience participation\, includes many of Patsy’ unforgettable hits such as Crazy\, I Fall to Pieces\, Sweet Dreams and Walking After Midnight…27 songs in all. The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger\, which were consistently signed “Love ALWAYS… Patsy Cline.”
