SUMMARY:Effective Crisis Communication: Damage Control When a Crisis Threatens Your Organization's Reputation
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 17\, 2020\n1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT \nHonestly speaking\, sooner or later a crisis is bound to happen to your organization\, and it could become the lead story in the local news media – even become a national news story. Any number of situations can be the cause of negative news about your organization or disrupt its ability to carry out its mission – a data breach; a natural disaster\, such as pandemic; a rumor; financial emergencies; leadership problems; criminal activity or a social media post made in poor taste. The middle of a crisis is the worst time to try to prepare. The best time to prepare for a crisis is long before it happens. Being prepared for a potential crisis is critical because your organization’s reputation could be at stake! In this thought-provoking webinar\, two experienced television news professionals will share strategic insights about how to develop a vitally important 21st Century Crisis Communications Plan in the “age of social media\,” and how to groom and guide your Crisis Communications Team during a crisis. Register here.

SUMMARY:Fostering Education from Home Part II: Applying Strategies in the Real World
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 10\, 2020\n1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT \nWith children out of school and at home\, caregivers have been asked to assume many new roles and responsibilities. Among these is the role of teacher. Even under the best of circumstances\, youth who have experienced foster care often have difficulty navigating the demands of school. Now\, as schools move into remote learning mode\, caregivers must find ways to keep their students motivated\, engaged\, and learning (as well as fed\, entertained\, and supported in coping with the traumas of this “new normal”). How can we create routines that allow us to help our kids with assignments and virtual classes? Part I of this two-part webinar session will offer research-informed strategies that caregivers\, social workers\, educators\, and advocates can implement to address some of the common challenges that arise with schooling from home. Part II of this webinar will focus on practice and implementation of the practical tools for parents and caregivers introduced in Part I. Register here.

SUMMARY:Albert Camus' Novel The Plague And Its Message
DESCRIPTION:Zoom Workshop On June 4 \nWhat message does Albert Camus’ novel The Plague have for the post-Holocaust world and today’s COVID-19 environment? How does it resonate with the fear of contagion\, as well as the choices made by each person\, political leader or ordinary human being\, about how to understand what has happened? How do we respond\, in that light\, to the threat of death to ourselves and others? \nThese issues will be explored at an online Zoom workshop\, open to the public\, on Thursday\, June 4\, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The workshop will open online at 4 p.m.\, for those who want to ensure access. \nThis workshop\, entitled “Thinking about The Plague: Post-Holocaust and in a Time of Coronavirus\,” is presented by South Jersey Holocaust Coalition and by New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. \nAn introductory discussion will take us into the metaphor of plague\, the human response to crisis\, theodicy\, and the response of the bystander\, resistance to the plague\, what we can learn from the experience of plague\, and of how such themes can be explored by teachers and students as they return to the classroom. \nEducators\, students\, and the public are invited to take part\, and\, for professionals\, 1.5 Professional Development (PD) hours will be granted by New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. \nThere is no cost to participate in the workshop\, but registration (password protected) is required. Please register by visiting the Coalition website—www.holocaustcoalition.com. \nFor more information on this and all South Jersey Holocaust Coalition events and activities\, please visit the Coalition’s website at www.holocaustcoalition.com or their Facebook page at “South Jersey Holocaust Coalition.” You may also e-mail holocaustcoalition@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Fostering Education from Home Part I: Research Informed Strategies that Help
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 27\, 2020\n1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT \nFostering Education from Home\nPart II: Applying Strategies in the Real World\nWednesday\, June 10\, 2020\n1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT \nWith children out of school and at home\, caregivers have been asked to assume many new roles and responsibilities.

SUMMARY:Don't Forget About All of Me
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 20\, 2020\n1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT \nAs Americans work to adjust to life amid the COVID-19 pandemic\, the links between social determinants of health (SDoH)\, access to health care\, and overall physical and behavioral health outcomes become all too clear. Those served by the child welfare system who have already experienced trauma face additional trauma exposure due to SDoH issues such as food insecurity\, disruption to their typical school routine\, and social isolation. This webinar will explore how SDoH may lead to health disparities and health inequities. Presenters will also describe the responsibility of Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to address SDoH barriers as part of their overall strategy for improving health care outcomes\, particularly during this pandemic. Register here.
