Hidden Figures: Women in STEAM
Bridgeton, New Jersey – Families to College, Unidos Para la Familia, and STEAMworks present Hidden Figures: Women in STEAM, a New Jersey Makers Day Event at STEAMworks & FTC Campus Center @ Hopeloft, 40-46 E Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ 08302 on Friday, March 20th from 4:00-8:00PM.
Families are invited to this statewide celebration of maker culture spotlighting hands on STEAM-based learning. They will explore history and create DIY souvenirs together, all while learning about influential women in STEAM. They will:
- Create illuminated paper lanterns and learn about Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta’s invention of Luminaid.
- Build their own robots and learn about Ayah Bdeir and LittleBits Electronics.
- Create digital art in FTC’s Light Painting class.
- Explore the maker space at STEAMworks in a wood etching class, and record their own CD in the recording studio!
New Jersey Makers Day is a celebration of maker culture across the Garden State. This all-ages event connects individuals with makerspaces that support making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing, and STEM-based learning.
Families to College partners with Cumberland County families to achieve their academic and employment goals through a comprehensive whole-family mentoring program. Collaborative partners, Appel Farm, United Advocacy Group, Cumberland County College, and The City of Bridgeton each bring expertise and resources to the work.
