Ivette Guillermo-McGahee
We are proud to announce that Ivette Guillermo-McGahee is our newest Heartland Hero. Ivette is the founder and CEO of Allies In Caring, Inc., a Hammonton-based nonprofit organization providing mental health counseling and educational services to Latino, deaf and other underserved populations. As a Mexican-born child of deaf parents, Guillermo-McGahee has a profound understanding of the growth that lies within the life’s hardships. She is not a stranger to life’s struggles and knows first-hand the trials of perseverance. Ivette founded Allies In Caring in 2012, determined to focus on the abilities and strengths in people rather than their deficits or illnesses. Through Allies In Caring, she helps families thrive and develop into more skillful, mindful and compassionate human beings, while also working through their adversity. Ivette’s work also focuses on developing innovative alliances to enhance the capacity and improve the health and well-being of the local communities.
Ivette’s latest work is centered on establishing a Wellness Hub: Con-Vivir (Spanish for “Co-Live,”) which she envisions as a center for community health innovation centrally located in Hammonton, NJ. Con-Vivir aims to improve community health by boosting its capacity to address social and economic factors. Con-Vivir will leverage the resources and assets that exist in South Jersey and offer counseling, community-building events, as well as recreational and educational activities that will improve physical and behavioral health. For all Ivette has done to help improve the lives others, we are proud to honor her as our Heartland Hero!
