Jerry Titherington
There are things in life we sometimes take for granted. We see firetrucks and ambulances racing down the road with lights flashing and assume in our time of need, when fire or illness strikes, these brave firefighters and EMT’s will be there putting their lives on the line for our families and loved ones. As a Captain in the Elwood Volunteer Fire Department, Jerry Titherington is just that kind of Hero, which is why we are proud to name him our January 2020 New Jersey’s Heartland Hero. No matter when the call goes out – during holidays, one of his kid’s birthdays or other special occasions – Jerry leads the charge to safeguard people and property within his community with never a complaint. The irony is, while he, his wife and 17 and 12 year old sons are all safe, Jerry and his family recently lost their home and both their cars to a devastating fire. Still, through it all, Jerry is always there for others, a selfless and true Heartland Hero.
