Michael Kerr Receives March 2021 New Jersey’s Heartland Hero Award

Michael Kerr is a veteran who, to this day, continues his fight for his fellow soldier. During the 1980s, Michael Kerr served in the Navy on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Currently, Michael serves nobly as a commander at the Mantua VFW with an extensive background in assisting military individuals and their families.
Michael has organized the New Jersey Run for the Fallen for more than four years. This group honors the fallen and their families with a Memorial Trail through New Jersey. Every fall, the New Jersey Run for the Fallen stops at each mile marker along the way visit a military family who has lost a loved one. This year’s trail will be more than 195 miles long.
As a lead organizer in Operation Yellow Ribbon, Michael organizes collections and plans the logistics to drop off the items. Together, they collect US Troop supplies and goodies, including food, snacks, drinks, and hygiene products, all while fundraising, so they can ship to those in harm’s way in the Middle East.
Lastly, this month’s Heartland Hero is an active member of Warriors’ Watch Riders, an organization that seeks to help veterans and their families. Michael is one of the members who rides and uses his motorcycle to draw attention for our troops’ cause. To this day, Michael continues to march in Memorial Day and veterans’ parades.
For these reasons, New Jersey’s Heartland is proud to honor Michael Kerr of Mantua, New Jersey, as the March 2021 Heartland Hero Winner.
