Older Americans Month 2020: Make Your Mark
The Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities recognizes each May as a time to honor older Americans during Older Americans Month. Each year, older adults make a positive impact in and around Salem County. As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates and more, they offer insight and experience that benefits the entire community. That’s why Older Americans Month (OAM) has been recognizing the contributions of this growing population for 57 years. The 2020 Older Americans Month theme, “Make Your Mark,” celebrates and highlights the unique and lasting contributions older adults make to their communities everything from sharing a story with grandchildren to leaving a legacy of community action by sharing their time, experience, and talents which benefit family, peers, and neighbors every day.
During this time of social distancing, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking to highlight Older Americans Month a bit differently this year in Salem County. We are inviting residents, and their families, to share stories with us each week through a new social media campaign entitled “Wednesday Wisdom.”
Each Wednesday in May, we will post a question to the Office on Aging and Disabilities Facebook page asking for you to respond. We know that not all of our Salem County residents have social media, so we encourage families and friends to connect and help share the stories with us. Responses can be submitted by replying to the original Facebook post, email to scseniors@salemcountynj.gov or by regular mail to Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities, 110 Fifth Street, Suite 900, Salem, New Jersey 08079.
Below is the timeline of questions for the campaign:
May 6th – What advice would you share with students graduating high school this year?
May 13th – What is your greatest accomplishment, and why ?
May 20th – What are you most proud of?
May 27th – What is the most important lesson that your parents taught you?
