Quintessential Quintets in Washington Twp.

Music at Bunker Hill presents Quintessential Quintets on March 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., returning with their ongoing exploration of the String Quintet. Beethoven’s Quintet in C Major and Dvořák’s Quintet in E Flat are usually heard by audiences when a touring string quartet has a guest artist for one piece. They are very rarely heard together, and QQ feels fortunate to explore these masterworks. Performers include Daniel Phillips and Catherine Cho on violin, Toby Appel and William Frampton on viola, and Marcy Rosen on cello.

Dvořák’s Quintet in E flat was composed in 1893, just one year into his appointment as director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York. His compositional style blends Bohemian (Czech) and American musical influences and tends to resonate with American audiences. Beethoven’s lush and elegant Quintet in C is well loved but rarely performed compared to his string quartets. Both works are sure to inspire and delight.
