The Evolution of Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl
South Jersey Holocaust Coalition Presents:
THE EVOLUTION OF ANNE FRANK’S “THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL” IN THE CLASSROOM: FROM AWARENESS TO BOOK BANS
Presenter and Facilitator – Harry Furman, Esq. Co-Chair, South Jersey Holocaust Coalition
VINELAND BOARD OF EDUCATION
(The former Landis Middle School building)
61 West Landis Avenue, Vineland, NJ 08360
We invite you to attend this presentation either in-person or virtually. Our discussion will take a fresh and wide-ranging look at the story, along with Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, most frequently used in the teaching of the Holocaust.
We will examine how the story of Anne Frank has evolved from its first presentation as theater and film shaped to a postwar American audience in the 1950s. We will probe the lessons of the “Diary” and the varied criticisms of its scope and use that have led to calls for it to be removed from the classroom.
We expect to elicit considerable discussion through PowerPoint and film. Teachers, students, and the public are encouraged to attend for what should be a very engaging experience.
