Veterans in Salem County have Increased Access to Skilled Nursing Home Facility

Salem, NJ – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced Wilmington VA Medical Center (VAMC) awarded a nursing home contract to Golden Nursing Home in Salem County, expanding available options for long-term care to better meet the needs of Veterans.

Golden is a 116-bed facility that offers specialty palliative, hospice, dementia, and respite care. According to a press release issued on October 16 from the Department of Veterans Affairs stated this contract, along with outreach services, is part of an ongoing effort by the Wilmington VAMC to grow services in southern New Jersey. This will be Wilmington VAMC seventh contract nursing home.

Freeholder Director Melissa Decas tro stated, “Salem County is pleased that the Wilmington VA Medical Center has awarded a contract to a long–term care facility in Salem County for Veterans. We thank Golden Nursing Home for securing this contract. The increase in accessibility and outreach in our County is a positive enhancement as it provides our Veterans with direct service opportunities close to home.”

Nursing homes awarded VA contracts are required to go through a rigorous federal open bidding process.

“When a Veteran is in need of long term medical care, the importance of having a facility within the County reduces the added burden and pressure on the Veteran and their family when selecting an unfamiliar facility. Veterans continue to be a high priority and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with other entities to enhance or expand services that benefit the needs of our Veterans and their families,” said Scott Griscom, Freeholder Liaison to the Public Safety Committee.
