Westville Brewery Explodes on the Scene on June 23
For co-owners Mike and Pam Gordy, John Metz and Chuck Ecker, the June 23rd Grand Opening of the Westville Brewery has been 20 years in the making. At 3 pm, the foursome will open their doors and proudly bring craft beer to the Old Westville Firehouse at 201 Broad inWestville.
The Westville Brewery Grand Opening is part of a celebration that will stretch into the evening, when the Borough of Westville stages a spectacular fireworks show at dusk. There will be food trucks on hand from 6 pm to 9pm, so stop by the brewery grand opening and then break out the lawn chairs and settle in for an evening of food and fireworks.
The seeds for the Westville Brewery were planted in 1996 when Mike, then a steamfitter in Philadelphia, was approached by a co-worker about brewing beer. Mike purchased a $60 Home Brew kit, which included Charlie Papazian’s famous “The Complete Joy of Homebrewing.” And while Mike and Pam’s first batch was far from stellar, they kept at it, brewing beer out of a 10-gallon setup until they joined forces with John and Chuck in 2014 to begin planning their dream brewery.
One look at the beautiful Westville Brewery shows its owners have not forgetting the building’s firehouse roots. The same can been said about their craft beers, which will honor local history and town landmarks. Here are some of the brews on tap: Thomas West Pale Ale (named afterWestville founder Thomas West), Pipewrench Porter (a salute to Mike’s union), North Station IPA (for the Firehouse), Timber Creek NEIPA (in honor of the local river) and Parkview Saison (which draws its name from the local Elementary School). Mike is also crafting a Gluten-reduced beer and a still unnamed Mango Wheat.
TheWestville Brewery is offering a limited number of yearly memberships (50 to be exact) called “Clock Keepers.” For just $100, members will receive an official “Clock Keeper” membership card and lanyard, Westville Brewery “Clock Keeper” limited T-Shirt, pint glass and 32-ounce Growler, a Birthday Growler fill, their name on the “Clock Keeper Wall,” member’s only party with for the first pour on them, 10% discounts, as well as invitations to small batch tappings.
