GrandFUN Making Memories and Hula Hoop Rugs
Someone one said, “Grandchildren don’t need a lot of toys. The best thing a grandchild can have is a grandparent who gets down on the floor and plays with them.” GrandFUN is offering an opportunity for you to make a memory together with your grandkids by making a Hula Hoop Rug.
On Friday, November 15, 2019, from 5-7 pm, the Salem County Department of Health and Human Services, GrandFUN program will be meeting at Home Coming Art Studio. The studio is located at 86A N. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ next to the Pennsville Municipal Building.
A Hula Hoop Rug is made from strips of old t-shirts, you provide, cut into strips and woven and tied together to make a round rug using the hula hoop as the frame. Just think of the memories you already have wearing these t-shirts. Now they will be used to make a lasting memory together with your grandkids.
Each rug takes 7-9 t-shirts to make. Each family will need to supply t-shirts for the event. They will be cut into strips ahead of time so they are ready on November 15 when we meet. Don’t worry, if you do not have enough t-shirts, The Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities has you covered. When registering, let Marikay Green know.
GrandFUN was created for Grandparents and Other Older Adult Caregivers (55+), who have primary caregiving responsibilities for children under 18 years of age.
Events are held in the evenings, weekends, or around the grandchildren’s school schedules throughout the year. The Office on Aging and Disabilities will be hosting free events in and around the county as well as surrounding areas.
Advanced registration is required. To register or obtain more information about GrandFUN, call the Salem County Office on Aging and Disabilities at 856-339-8622. Also, on www.facebook.com/salemcounty.ooa or sign up for our Senior Enews.
